Foundations/sub-structures

Building on solid foundations is essential in all forms of engineering and construction.
Collis Volute PileAt Collis Civil Engineering we have extensive expertise in the design and installation of a number of different foundations; each suited for a different application in different prevailing environmental conditions. Our process always starts with a comprehensive geotechnical investigation and report – click here for more information.
Pending the results of the geotechnical report, the following foundation (sub-structure) options are available:
·          The Volute Pile System. The Collis Volute Pile System is a foundation based on helical piling where a designated number of piles are ‘screwed’ in to the ground. The piles are then connected via a transfer plate allowing the signal structure to be installed. The volute pile system cuts a clean path through the soil to minimise any disturbance or heave, meaning that the in-situ properties of the soil remain significantly unchanged. The system offers significant benefits for installation cutting the number of site visits and allowing the sub and superstructure to be erected in a single possession with the same plant.
Where ground conditions are not suited to a volute pile further options are available:
·          Traditional concrete pad – a reinforced concrete cap is used to provide a flat, stable foundation on which the superstructure can be erected.
·          Grundomat piling – a pneumatic ‘hammer’ system drives the piles in to the ground. A pile cap is fitted to allow the superstructure to be installed.
All sub structure designs are undertaken by our in-house resources with relevant paperwork completed and submitted accordingly.
